Our New Logo Graphic!
This month Thom is freshly back from a 5 week expedition to Antarctica with Aurora expeditions. He and Kat managed 4 ESCA deployments in 24 hours, got permission to sticker an Antarctic Icon, and Thom watched in amazement while Kat fended off a large iceberg with her bare hands and a boat hook.
After a short stop in Australia, and being saved by Old Mate from an early morning travel nightmare, Thom is back in New Zealand and entertaining visits from 130 year old turtles.
Alan had a great time with old friends, may have played hookey on a podcast record, and spent 2 weeks in Antigua listening to ‘80’s hair metal on the beach.
We reveal our new graphics by @studio_mbj, get an update from Monty on Chimaera mating, and get to hear about the forever home for the “I am your tongue now” mug from @fibreandmud.

This month we hear from The Unseen Ocean Collective, an art and science team dedicated to revealing the beauty and wonder of the deep-ocean while widening the scope of traditional science communication.
We are talking with Meghan Jones, Lara Beckmann and Nilnajana Das the day before their big show opening in Spokane WA at the Chase Gallery in City Hall. Tune in to hear about the background of this trailblazing group of women, their events in Spokane over the month of April 2026 and plans for the future including where you might be able to see a show of their work!
This past month Alan and Thom were both guests on the Oceanography Podcast, a weekly podcast hosted by Clark Marchese and produced by Pine Forest Media.
Oceanography focuses on the Ocean’s most urgent stories, through thoughtful conversations with oceanographers, leading researchers, policymakers, climate scientists, and deep-sea researchers from around the world.
This podcast is expertly hosted by a terrific science communicator, and brings listeners beneath the surface to take an immersive, and interdisciplinary look at the blue heart of our planet.
